Amsterdam has a wealth of culture that has been revealed this year with its 2008 “Amsterdam Hidden Treasures” theme. It has proven itself to be an interesting and entertaining city with its wealth of arts, performance, history and fashion and it is well the most visited city in the Netherlands.
Amsterdam will keep any visitor entertained with their dam, semi-circular rings of canals crisscrossed by around 400 bridges and its many churches. These sights are highly worthwhile to spend time seeing, but the city is most famous for its museums. It is home to over fifty museums, including the renowned Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum and Stedelijk Museum. London has a long history dating back to at least 67 AD when there are definite mentions of a flourishing city existing. It was established by the Romans, but later taken over by the Saxons (when the Romans pulled out) and then by the Normans. It has a history rich in religion and royalty, as well as plagues and destruction.
London is made up of two cities, “The City of London” and “Westminster.” Today, the West End is considered to be the center of London and the East End is a poor industrial area when the working class lives. Paris is a much coveted holiday destination. It is full of traditional, romantic village areas, but also offers all of the wonders and attractions of a modern cosmopolitan city. In Paris, you will find some of the most famous monuments, museums and attractions from around the world. It is certainly a destination that offers something for all visitors.
You can find 150 museums in Paris and almost all of these are worthwhile to visit. They include famous museums such as the Louvre and the Musee d’Orsay. The Louvre draws approximately 5.7 million tourists per year and this is testimony to its amazing collection, which includes pieces such as Leonardo de Vinci’s stunning, “Mona Lisa.” The Musee d’Orsay holds one of the most remarkable Impressionist art collections worldwide.
