Modern cruise ships have dramatically lessened the problem of seasickness. Today’s larger ships slice through the waves instead of riding on top of them. Also, new technologies like stabilizers, which look like large underwater fins, and counterbalancing systems have greatly reduced any pitch and rolling motion of the ships, all but neutralizing the problem ofseasickness. In addition, cruise ships use radar to help them steer clear or outrun bad weather and potential hurricanes.

Research shows that even in very rough weather, less than three percent of all cruise passengers experience any symptoms of seasickness. Women and children seem to be more prone to seasickness, while seniors are less susceptible. Some symptoms of seasickness are nausea, stomach cramps and vomiting. However, if you think you have a severe seasickness problem, you may want to book an inside cabin located on a lower deck and in the middle of the ship. This is the area of the ship where the least rocking motion is felt. If you are planning to book a trans-Atlantic cruise, it is possible that an ocean crossing may be rough at certain times during the year.

Seasickness happens when the brain receives conflicting messages which causes an imbalance in the receptors in the inner ear. When standing or walking on a moving surface a signal occurs in the brain saying something is wrong. These mixed signals can result in a feeling of dizziness, headache, clammy skin, nausea, and vomiting. As soon as the ship starts moving it is a good idea to go out on deck and walk around. Keep focusing your eyes on the horizon. Your knees may feel wobbly but keep walking as this will help you get your “sea legs”. Even the fresh sea breezes will help you feel better. And if you must eat, eat light. Until you are feeling better, do not eat a heavy meal as it will only make you feel worse.

Motion sickness doesn’t only occur on cruise ships. It can happen when you are in a car, bus, train, or on an airplane, anytime you are subjected to motion.

If needed, the ship’s doctor can prescribe medication such as Benadryl, Bonine, or Dramamine tablets that will treat nausea, vomiting, and dizziness, the worst symptoms ofmotion sickness. There is another very effective, physician prescribed, anti-seasickness product called Transderm Scop. It is a small patch that is placed behind each ear. These patches can lessen the effects of, or even prevent, motion sickness and should be worn at least eight hours before you cruise. The above drugs can cause a variety of side effects such as dry mouth, drowsiness, and dizziness. A drug free way to counteractseasickness is an acupuncture session. This treatment works well and is available on some ships that have a registered acupuncturist on board.

Sea-Bands, which apply a gentle pressure to the acupressure points on both your wrists also work well. They have been clinically tested to help provide relief from nausea and vomiting caused bymotion sickness when traveling, pregnancy, anesthesia, chemotherapy, and any condition that may induce vomiting. Smaller sized Sea-Bands are also available for children. They can be bought in drug stores and pharmacies as well as most travel oriented stores and do not require a prescription. They do not cause any side effects so can be used safely, again and again, whenever you feel nauseous. They can also be purchased online at Sea-Band.com, or at a number of stores in the United States, such as Brooks, Osco, K-Mart, Eckerd, Kerr Drug, Longs, Rite Aid, Stop & Shop, CVS, Savon, Walgreens, and Walmart.

It is a good idea to see your family doctor before you depart on your cruise if you feel that you may be susceptible to seasickness. It’s better to get a prescription for seasickness medication from your physician and purchase any over-the-counter anti-motion products such as Transderm Scopolamine, Dramamine, Bonine, or Benadryl because even though you can get them onboard ship they will probably be more expensive. Another remedy that can work well for most passengers are ginger capsules. They are a great preventative measure, but are more effective if they’re taken before you sail. Their effectiveness lasts for approximately eight hours, and have been proven to help reduce or even eliminate the feeling of nausea.

Some words of caution. A health care professional such as a physician, or pharmacist should always be consulted about prescription drug dosages and their possible side effects. There also can be side effects caused by some drug combinations, even with over-the-counter medications.

If you are harboring thoughts of bringing the family for a Las Vegas vacation, then perhaps you should seriously consider a stay at Excalibur Hotel and Casino. This hotel will have you feeling as though you’ve stepped into the fairy tales of your childhood. From the moment you cross the threshold from the outside world to the charmed existence of life in the hotel you will find that you have truly been charmed and are leading a somewhat enchanted existence.

Not only is there the magnificent casino to enjoy, there is also the wonderful pool, links golf, the castle walk for your shopping pleasure, and the midway where you can play all kinds of fun and exciting arcade and carnival games. Perhaps one of the most memorable and impressive of offerings is the Tournament of Kings dinner show. This show is offered nightly at 6:00 and 8:30 and you will eat in the manner of those in medieval times, without utensils while watching the evil wizard Mordred as he invades the evening festivities. This show is quite enjoyable and relies heavily upon audience participation.

Dining in the hotel and casino can be quite the adventure without the assistance of horses and actors as there are several dining options including the Roundtable Buffet, The Steakhouse at Camelot, Regale Italian Eatery, Sherwood Forest Cafe, and how could we forget Sir Galahad’s Pub and Prime Rib House?

If you’re looking for the fairytale wedding of your dreams, then Excalibur has the package for you. You can even elect to rent medieval costumes in which to get married. There are many different packages available to fit various budgets and wedding needs. Wedding packages vary in price from around $400 plus $55 for the cost of the minister to around $1575 plus the cost of the minister. These are all rather basic packages and do not include extras such as costume rentals, extra poses for the wedding photos, or video and candle services.

Before your big day make sure you make liberal use of the spa services available at Excalibur Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Of course this is a great idea even if you are just hoping to relax while on vacation. You remember relaxation right? That is what you did on occasion before you had children. You should definitely get the royal treatment that is available through the spa and enjoy every minute of your visit. Some of the spa services offered at Excalibur include: facials, wraps, Aveda facials, and various massages. There are add on services that can be purchased and packages available. This is a great way to spend an hour or three before your big day or any day.

Once you’ve finished getting pampered at the spa, step on over to Kristina’s Salon and get primped. You can enjoy everything from manicures to full service hair styling services. Whether you are preparing for your big day and saying “I do!” or simply for a romantic evening on the strip this is a great place to begin.

Excalibur also offers full service catering and convention services. Whether you are hosting a wedding reception or a company convention we have the facilities as well as the expertise to keep everything operating seamlessly behind the scenes so that all eyes will be on the things that are important. Projections and profits for the corporate conventions and the bride and groom for wedding receptions.

Excalibur Hotel Casino can meet almost any lodging and accommodation needs for those staying and playing in Las Vegas, more than that we can provide a great ‘fairy tale’ atmosphere for your family vacation or just your big trip in general. If you haven’t given proper consideration to the idea of staying here during your visit, I highly encourage that you do-especially if you have a little princess in your party that you are trying to impress.

Amsterdam has a wealth of culture that has been revealed this year with its 2008 “Amsterdam Hidden Treasures” theme. It has proven itself to be an interesting and entertaining city with its wealth of arts, performance, history and fashion and it is well the most visited city in the Netherlands.

Amsterdam will keep any visitor entertained with their dam, semi-circular rings of canals crisscrossed by around 400 bridges and its many churches. These sights are highly worthwhile to spend time seeing, but the city is most famous for its museums. It is home to over fifty museums, including the renowned Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum and Stedelijk Museum. Some lesser known museums include the secret attic church, “Ons Lieve Heer op Solder,” the new Bag and Purse Museum, the Amsterdam Tulip Museum and Anne Frank House.

A visit to the Oude Kerk, which is an old church with little houses that cling to its sides, is recommended. Its architecture is interesting as it has an octagonal bell tower which is built in a Gothic-Renaissance style. Dam square is another interesting place to visit as it is home to the dam that lies at the center of the city, as well as the beautiful Royal Palace. The Palace was originally built in the 17th century as the town hall and was later converted by Napoleon into a palace. It is still used by the Queen for official functions and is open to the public during the summer months. One of Amsterdam’s hidden treasures can be found if you follow the narrow vaulted passageway that leads to Begijnhof. It is a quaint garden which is surrounded by old houses. It is host to a medieval church and the oldest house in Amsterdam.

You can take a boat cruise or canal tour along the beautiful canals of Amsterdam. You can do a bike, boat or walking tour of the city that will show you many of the historical sights that there are to see. You can visit the Concert building. The Concertgebouw is said to have among the best acoustics in the world and to be home to one of the world’s greatest orchestras.

If you are visiting Amsterdam, you will have many accommodation options to choose from. You can stay in a luxury styled or a small boutique styled hotel. You can choose to stay in one of the hotels that can be found near a famous landmark or in one with a view over one of the canals. You can find self catering rental apartments that range from small single-roomed apartments to large luxury places situated along the banks of one of the canals. If you are a backpacker or have a tight budget, you may decide to stay in a youth cnter. These can generally be found conveniently located in the center of the city. During the summer months, campgrounds are opened. Some campgrounds offer bungalows in case of bad weather. Even though the campgrounds are outside the city, they are often in cycling distance from town so you can still visit the attractions.

London has a long history dating back to at least 67 AD when there are definite mentions of a flourishing city existing. It was established by the Romans, but later taken over by the Saxons (when the Romans pulled out) and then by the Normans. It has a history rich in religion and royalty, as well as plagues and destruction.

London is made up of two cities, “The City of London” and “Westminster.” Today, the West End is considered to be the center of London and the East End is a poor industrial area when the working class lives. London is Europe’s largest city and is made up of immigrants from across the globe.

Due to London’s long and rich history, the fact that it is home to a current monarchy and due to the fact that it is a large cosmopolitan city, there are a substantial selection of attractions for visitors to enjoy. There are museums and galleries, parks and palaces, just to mention a few types of the sight-seeing wonders that London has to offer. Begin your trip with a guided tour of the Houses of Parliament. Follow that with a visit to London’s public art collections which are known to be among the best in the world. These can be found in the Tate Modern, the Tate Britain and the National Galleries.

Hampton Court is one of the most stunning attractions in Europe and a trip to London would not be complete without a visit to this site. It was Henry VIII’s original palace and gardens, but it has been improved upon by numerous monarchs. Not as impressive, but also worth visiting are Buckingham Palace and the Tower of London. Westminster Abbey is also stunning.

The medieval inns of the Inns of Court are interesting to see. Within the city, you will find some remaining architectural delights from Victorian London. There are many tours available, but the tour of the City Churches is an excellent choice.

There are many large and beautiful parks in London or a walk or boat ride along the river are a real treat. You can wander through some of the city’s quiet Georgian squares or through what appear to be a collection of villages. London is the place to visit the theater. The high quality and low prices of their shows make it a must.

London has a vast collection of holiday accommodation options. There are many luxurious five star hotels. If that is beyond your budget, it is easy to find cheaper accommodation options in London.

The competition among bed and breakfasts has recently raised their standards and you can find many good quality B&Bs around the city. A rental apartment will allow you more freedom and privacy than a hotel.

You can find luxury apartments with a maid service, to cheaper and smaller apartments. These can be rented for one night, while others may have minimum length stays. Apartments are available throughout the city. Hostels are also common and during the summer months, many universities open their student halls to visitors.
